(Hatbox Ghost images used from Long Forgotten )
Just a few weeks ago I had an idea to see if I could paint the Hatbox Ghost from Haunted Mansion on a blank face mask.
After finding a good front facing picture of the Hatbox Ghost, I drew a crude picture on the mask and went over with white paint. Then started painting in the main shapes, following the picture as a guide. I painted in different directions, to give the look of the contour and depth. I wiped back the paint to give the shapes a ghostly appearance.
Next I painted details in black. Don't worry about messing up. We can come back later to fix it. The black details are going to be painted over with more dry brush white. Wiping it down can be tricky here. It might run away the layer underneath.
Next is building up layers in white, keeping the shapes contours and contrast in mind. I waited about 20-30 minutes in between coats.
When this is done we can come back with our final coat of white, highlighting the spots you want to be most visible. (I followed the areas I could see brightest in the photos I was using). Remember to follow shapes and contours. After that is dry it's time to come back and fix mistakes with the black paint.
You can just cover up the spots or fill all the areas with black. Now you can paint a smile. After everything is dry it's time to paint the teeth. Hatbox Ghost has a gold tooth in the right front incisor. Leave a gap when painting in teeth with white. When those are dry paint in the gold tooth with metallic gold paint.
Now he's finished. You can put drawings of his eyes in as I did, paint him with invisible, blacklight paint, highlights anywhere you want.
